Hey Everyone,

Chewing Gum - Know About Its

Surprising Positive Effects

On Our Brain

auracompletesolutions.blogspot.com

Though we may think of chewing gum as something that is a recent thing for mankind, surprisingly it is not so. Chewing gum or bark or chicle (the milky latex of the sapodilla tree, formerly chewed by the Aztecs and now used to make chewing gum) has been around for centuries now. Even the ancient civilizations like Aztec talk about chewing gums. With a lot of curiosity, studies were conducted to see what other effects do chewing gums have.

As early as in 1939, Leta Hollingsworth did some detailed studies and came up with linkages between chewing gum and cognitive functions.

Over the subsequent years, though more detailed understanding of the chewing process and the neural pathway is established, more correlation has been established. It has been shown to have benefits on memory alertness, anxiety, improved learning and hunger management.
What sort of gum are you chewing - that also decides the effect it has.
The texture, flavour and density are some of the parameters that need to be considered. The most common explanation is that chewing gum improves blood flow to the brain and therefore has these beneficial effects.

Chewing a gum induces what is known as "mastication-induced arousal."
Mastication or chewing in layman terms, of the gum induces production of certain chemicals in the brain and also gives a form of physical exercise that promotes blood flow and thereby improves performance. What is also interesting is that studies showed improved performance if the gum is chewed before the test, but had no significant result if chewed during the test.
Chewing gum is also shown to reduce cortisol levels
That explains why anxiety is better managed by people who constantly chew gum. In addition, for people with depression too, this simple, easily available gum may be the best method of treatment. It has been shown to stimulate the ventral part of the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for causing depression.
In the workplace, it is not uncommon to see chew gums in the midst of meetings to improve their focus.
Studies have actually shown a relationship between chewing gum and improved focus, productivity, efficiency and improved professionalism. When a survey was conducted at the end of the day, gum chewers reported higher levels of happiness being at the job with reduced fatigue and stress.

For the next level of confirmation, studies have been done where EEG and MRI scans have been done to establish the relationship between chewing gum and improved brain function. This needs some more corroboration, which will happen in the coming years, but the benefits of chewing gum are undoubted.

In a recent experiment , 123 healthy men and women underwent MRI scans of their brains while they looked at images of food items and rated how tasty and healthy they were.

auracompletesolutions.blogspot.com

They were also asked to name a healthy food.

The participants with grey matter in two brain regions - the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex were more likely to make healthy choices.

Luckily, you can increase the volume of your grey matter.

It happens when you push yourself to learn new things, such as words in a foreign language.

Know And Understand How To Bust Exam Stress With These Helpful Tips

Hey Everyone,

Anxious as the school year draws to an end?

Here's help for you and your children

Know And Understand How To

              Bust Exam Stress

With These

Helpful Tips

auracompletesolutions.blogspot.com

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR again the exams are around the corner and there's a cloud of stress hanging in the air at home. Here are some effective strategies that will help you and your child stay on top.

Develop Smart learning methods

Encourage creative learning.

We often equate hard work with the number of hours a child puts in. But it's really the quality of learning that makes the difference. Active Learning methods such as reading aloud, helping others learn, brainstorming, recording and listening ( for auditory learners), highlighting, mind mapping, making notes and diagrams ( for visual learners ) and movement, walking around, dribbling the ball ( for kinaesthetic learners ) or maybe a mix of all these can help the brain absorb the information efficiently.

Let them take break

Each child is wired differently some need breaks every hour, while others can stay focussed for hours. A break will help energize the overloaded brain.

A high-protein or unprocessed carb snack ,  a jog in the park or listening to music refreshes the brain , preparing it for further learning and retention. Once in a while, take long breaks - a meal at a restaurant or a good movie is okay. These will keep your child feeling upbeat and prepare  for the long haul.

Change TICs to TOCs

Task interfering cognitions (TICs) - " This is boring," " I don't want to do it now," "I will do it later"- can lead to deprivation and chronic procrastination.

So help your kid to embrace TOCs (task-orienting cognitions)-"I am going to have fun doing these maths problems," "I am going to stay focussed and get this done," to keep the energy and motivation alive.

Remove Distractions.

Sit down with him / her and identify them.
It could be the TV, mobile phones, social media , music , gaming consoles. Your Child will try and convince you that multitasking makes him / her focus better. But research shows that this is a myth , listen calmly but take a clear stand.

Help your kids visualize

Before the exams, help your child visualize the exam morning- every detail from the travel to the exam centre, walking in, meeting friends, sitting down and going through the question paper. Let him / her see themselves answering the questions with complete confidence and alertness. Research has shown that visualizing prepares the brain in advance for affirmative action.

Ensure enough sleep

It helps the over wrought brain recover, improving concentration and focus. A high-protein breakfast wakes the brain up like nothing else can.

Work on yourself so you don't lose your nerve.

Avoid nagging. If you feel your child is not putting in enough effort, sit down and have a chat with him / her, Listen, empathize with her struggles and together, work out a plan that will help het stay on track, remember, kids will do well if they are given the support they need.

Create an and, comfortable atmosphere at home

Exams do not mean gloom and drudgery. Make space for fun, laughter , playfulness , good food and music.

The happier the child, the more effectively the child will be able to learn.

Keep the bigger picture in mind.

Stay calm and emphasize sustained effort, perseverance and determination. Focus on building character, not grades.

In the long run, that is all that really matters.

Hey Everyone!

Know And Understand How Even The

Hardest

Of Hearts

Can Melt

auracompletesolutions.blogspot.com

From turning down the music to snacking on fish, the latest research on how to improve your ability learn

In  all likelihood, you've had a less than-pleasant encounter with a narcissist at some point. Notoriously selfish and vain, people with this personality type are known for their inability to feel empathy.

But there's hope for them yet! In 2014,researchers at England's University of Southampton developed an encouraging work around for those who lacked compassion: encourage them to adopt the perspective of the sufferer.

When lead researcher Erica Hepper and her colleagues showed subjects a video of a woman describing her experiences of physical violence, watching alone failed to trigger an appropriate response.

But when they prompted participants to put themselves in the woman's shoes, even those who scored as" high narcissists" expressed genuine concern and sympathy. So the next time a callous acquaintance refuses to see your side of things, take heart:itappears that, with a little guidance even the least tender among us can improve their empathetic abilities.

Signs Which Indicate How or Why are Video Games - Bad For Your Mental Health

This post may contain affiliate links, including Amazon.com(and affiliate Sites/Stores.)Any One Can Shop from this blog.Using links to these sites means I may earn a small percentage from  purchases made at no extra cost to you.

Hey Everyone!,

Signs Which Indicate How or Why

are Video Games - Bad For Your

Mental Health?
auracompletesolutions.blogspot.com

Your mother must have screamed at you for playing video games for long hours but obviously, you haven’t paid attention to it. Such is the obsession with video games that they don’t let you rest, unless you have championed all the levels in the virtual world. Studies have revealed that video games have a direct relation to neurological disorders. As a result, many health experts across the world consider video game as a kind of health abuse.

People who play action-oriented video games are at higher risks to attain these problems. The more you get involved in these games, the more they are going to affect your brain. It affects your nervous system, memory, and emotion. This has a detrimental effect on your overall brain health.
Let us see some of the signs which may indicate the onset of certain complications arising from overindulgence in these games:
  • You spend hours on the computer or related gaming devices and devote lesser hours for your family and friends.
  • You get irritated when someone stops you midway through the game
  • You become socially inaccessible and show signs of occasional mood swings
  • You are unable to keep a track of time once you start playing
  • You repeatedly neglect your studies, resulting in a dip in performance at school

Why does this happen?
All of the above signs indicate that sooner or later you might develop neurological problems. When you spend a lot of hours playing and navigating through the games, it can result in nerve-related disorders such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, depression and overall general stress.
One of the biggest reasons behind this is the lack of self-control. Most of the video games will encourage you to steal cars, run away after a theft and kill your enemies. Moreover, if you succeed, you are rewarded. This naturally unleashes an evident urge for the accomplishment for all these awkward desires in your real life too. Hence, once you are encountered with reality, you tend to show violent behaviour.
